Has anyone wondered why facial hair has got reduced during evolution in the monkeys, further in the apes and more so in humans ? What has been the adoptive value of such a trait that has been favourably selected over time ? Darwin had some answers in his book 'The expression of Emotion in Men and Animals' ,published in 1872.
Obviously, expression are visible only in a hairless face. Further , an individual's identity status lies in his or her face and its distinctively unique features. Although the facial features are stamps of identity, there is something more than mere looks. What is it ? The answer lies in the fact that expression of emotions has evolved and improved with time as an effective means of communication..
This has happened even before language evolved to fortify communication. In those days there was only face to face communication. But from then to now there has been an amazing anatomical changes in the larynx, that is the hardware making vocalisation and phonation more refined, has been accompanied by the evolution of the software, the brain.
Over time , with increasing use of electronic means of communication rather than face-to-face interactions, will the course of evolution lead to course of stony-face humans ?
Please do comment about how you like it . Appreciation and Criticism are heartily welcome .....
